HUNDREDS of people lined Kirkby Lonsdale’s Main Street on Sunday to cheer the annual festive procession headed by Santa Claus.

The second day of the town’s two-day Christmas Fair saw visitors flock to the town centre, bringing a welcome boost to trade for the village’s shops, cafes and hotels.

A fairground attraction took over the Market Square while stilt walkers and members of Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band kept the crowd entertained as they waited for the traditional procession to get under way.

Casterton Preparatory School pupils, staff and parents, who dressed as jolly Santas, singing and ringing bells as they walked, were declared winners of the parade.

Their £100 prize is being donated to the children’s charity NSPCC.

Meanwhile, St Mary’s Parish Church followed Saturday’s ‘Unwrapping Advent’ – a series of craft activities – with a ‘Toy Sunday’.

And on Sunday, a table top sale was also held at Kirkby Lonsdale Institute with lots of bargains and goodies on offer.
