Electricity North West has confirmed that planned power outages for non-critical maintenance work in Kendal and Whasset will be stopped tomorrow due to the extremely cold weather.
The company owns and maintains the region’s electricity network including 13,000km of overhead cables and 43,000km of underground cables and is currently working on a £1bn project to upgrade lines.
Paul Bircham, Customer Strategy Director for Electricity North West, said: “It is not usually possible to reschedule planned work because it is carried out when and where it is needed to reduce the risk of power cuts on the network and ensure supply for customers.
“However, given the extremely cold weather across the region, we have arranged to cancel all non-critical work planned for Friday 3 November and rearrange it for another time.
“Some critical work may still need to go ahead to ensure that customers do not suffer longer and more frequent outages with no notice as the winter weather continues.
“Our engineers work in all temperatures and conditions to get work done and keep power on for more than 2 million households and businesses in the North West. I encourage customers to call our 24-hour information line for the latest information.”
