A SELF help group to support people who have lost a loved one due to suicide has been set up in Cumbria.
Called the Cumbrian Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, the new group is a branch of the national charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) which works to support people who have lost someone close as a result of suicide.
On average more than 50 people in Cumbria die through suicide each year. Due to the nature of suicide it can leave the deceased person’s friends and family feeling confused as they seek to understand and come to terms with the reasons their loved one took their own life.
The support group has been set up after over 20 people most of whom had lost someone through suicide, attended an initial meeting in the county.
Meetings of the SOBS branch will be held once a month in Keswick. Anyone wishing to attend a meeting or find out more, can email sobscumbria@hotmail.co.uk or call John Asher on 07896703757 or John Brown on 07572975721 for more information.
