PEOPLE in Kendal are being urged to be vigilant when taking cash out after fraudsters used a card-skimming device in the town.
Police recovered a card reader and a small camera - which can film people typing in their pin - from the external ATM at Lloyds TSB bank in Finkle Street after they were alerted by a shopper at 2.10pm on Saturday.
Officers do not know yet whether any money was taken, but are keen to trace two men who were seen in the area at 6.45am, having parked a silver saloon car by the nearby South Lakeland District Council car park.
One man was described as slim and tall with dark hair, and was wearing a brown jacket and light coloured trousers or jeans, while the other was shorter in height, with fairer hair, and was wearing a black jacket and dark jeans.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “We are urging to be on the lookout for any suspicious attachments or devices, to always shield their pin, and to use ATMs situated within a bank or building society, wherever possible.
“People who used the Lloyds TSB ATM should check their account for any supicious or fraudulent activity, and if you notice anything unusual, inform your bank and the police.”
Anyone with information should contact PC Claire Fallows on 0845 3300247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
