A KENDAL park is to get a makeover to make it more vibrant after Britain in Bloom judges described it as looking ‘somewhat tired’ when they visited the town.

Councillors want a greater biodiversity at Abbot Hall park and wish to raise horti-cultural standards while making the park a more comfortable and colourful place.

Improvements will include:

* the creation of several new planting beds on grassed areas

* regeneration of shrub beds, replacing shrubs with perennials

* reduction in the height of a hedge surrounding the playground

* installation of four new seats

"The suggested improvements follow comments by the judges about the need to improve our parks and open spaces,” said Coun Tom Clare, chair of Kendal Town Council’s environment and highways committee.

The works form part of a wider three -year programme to improve open spaces in Kendal such as Gillinggate, Ford Park and Noble’s Rest.

A consultation period will run until Monday, November 22. More information can be obtained by visiting www.haveyoursay. org.uk.
