A SOUTH Lakeland business man with Multiple Sclerosis has launched a bid to encourage other sufferers to challenge their disease.

Davy Newell, who runs Kendal firm Adventure Challenge Solutions (ACS), has teamed up with the MS Society to offer free places on adventure sports events to those with the disabling neurological condition.

The idea was born when Davy Newell, managing director of ACS, was diagnosed in May with the illness, a condition of the central nervous system.

He is determined not to let the disease have a limiting impact on his life and wants to encourage MS patients, of which there are 100,000 people in the UK.

Mr Newell wants them to engage in challenging activities which he hopes will, in turn, challenge their disease.

He said: "I'm delighted that we have formed this new partnership with the MS Society.

"They do a great job supporting people with MS, which is something I only realised when I myself was diagnosed with the disease."

Diana Gornall, from the MS Society, said: "Davy is a hugely inspiring person.

"Despite his diagnosis, his drive and enthusiasm remains unaffected.

"Davy's infectious energy has resulted in this really positive partnership between the MS Society and ACS."

Events organised by ACS include Tri-Windermere, a triathlon set in the surroundings of the honeypot town.
