SITKAE Spruce Christmas Trees grown in Grizedale Forest by the Foresty Commission have been bought by Barrow Borough Council for Barrow, Dalton, Askam and Lindal.
Grizedale is a sustainable forest and each tree has a specific certificate number and a new tree will be planted to replace each of these trees, the day after they are felled.
The trees will be installed in the town and villages across Barrow Borough and decorated with low voltage Christmas fairy lights.
Ann Taylforth, Barrow Town Centre Manager, said: “We are proud to have Cumbrian trees grown locally in a sustainable forest. The 35-foot Barrow town centre tree has taken about 35 years to reach maturity. The Christmas lights add that sparkle to Christmas and I am sure the children will be delighted when the trees are lit up.”
Switch on details: Barrow, November 20. The lights will be switched on at approximately 5pm which will signal the start of the Santa Dash and Reindeer Run.
Daltom, November 28. The Christmas parade assembles at Tudor Square at 5pm to process to Market Place for the official switch on followed by the opening of the Christmas Tree Festival.
Lindal, November 25. Christmas Fayre in Buccleuch Hall and switch on of village tree at 6pm.
Askam, December 5. Stalls, Santa’s Grotto and parade and fireworks (time to be confirmed).
