A SOUTH Lakeland Women’s Institute has left a lasting legacy in their village by providing three decorative boulders to mark the entrances to their village.
The Holme branch of the WI - with help from the parish council - obtained the three boulders, which were donated by Holme Park Quarry to mark the 90th anniversary of the Westmorland Federation of Women’s Institutes.
WI member Ann Toon believes the boulders will provide a lasting reminder of the WI’s work in the village and across Westmorland.
“We wanted something for the village which would last a long time and that everybody could see,” she said.
“Originally we only wanted one, but the chiefs at the quarry have been so kind and donated all three, which is lovely.
“The parish council has been fantastic in sorting out the arrangements with the Highways Agency and it’s lovely to see all three marker stones in place.”
Holme WI has been in existence for over 60 years and has more than 25 members.
