SCORES of enterprises are vying for top honours in The Westmorland Gazette’s first Business and Tourism Awards.
Managing directors, tourism chiefs and entrepreneurs across the region have submitted almost 120 entries as they compete for 11 titles.
Each of the award categories proved popular, particularly the Small Business of the Year and Social and Community Development Award followed closely by Hotel of the Year, Team of the Year and the Innovation and Technology Award.
Westmorland Gazette group editor Kevin Young said: “The number and quality of entries we have received is fantastic and confirms what we knew – that the South Lakes has some world class businesses and a fantastic entrepreneurial spirit.”
Judges from sponsors the North West Development Agency, NatWest, Cumberland Building Society, accountants CLB Coopers and Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon Ltd, have the difficult task of drawing up a shortlist of just three finalists in each category.
Winners will be announced at the awards night, at the Castle Green Hotel, on September 17.
