POLICE fear a crime spree in Furness when football fans head to Wembley this weekend.
About 8,000 Barrow AFC supporters are expected to travel from the region to cheer on their team in the FA Trophy Final against Stevenage on Saturday.
And police are want fans to ensure they lock up their homes and secure property to reduce the risk of burglary and theft.
Extra patrols will be added around the town as part of Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing burglary campaign but officers have emphasised residents have a very important role to play.
Insp Dave Bosson said: “We want Barrow Town supporters to really enjoy their weekend - don’t run the risk of spoiling it by leaving homes insecure or valuables on display in vehicles."
"Basic security measures can prevent an opportunist thief so I’d urge anyone who is going away for the weekend to take a moment to check their home security."
