THE Conservatives hope to put ‘green tourism’ at the forefront of their priorities for North Lancashire’s rural villages.
On a visit to Carnforth Station, Shadow Transport Minister Teresa Villiers said it was vital to encourage cycling and public transport schemes.
She said: “Green transport schemes would be a priority for us.
"The benefits have not been fully recognised and they could help to encourage tourism.”
Ms Villiers was in Carnforth to support Tory candidate for Morecambe and Lunesdale David Morris.
Mr Morris said: “We hope to encourage new facilities at Silverdale station and aim to encourage more people to come to RSPB Leighton Moss.
“We want to encourage a more genteel form of tourism to those rural areas which should exploited more.”
