Kendal A 12, Vale A 20
WITHOUT showing the intensity of derby games of yesteryear, both teams attacked with fervour if not great skill.
Poor options from both teams meant a rather scrappy opening despite some stern defence, with Jimmy Bracken outstanding, before Vale exploited an overlap to score under the posts.
A further Vale score followed before Kendal picked up a gear for Bennett to scuttle over from close range.
Good driving from Holmes and Wilson saw Hayton stretch over to skilfully dot the ball over the line, Adge converting.
With the game in the balance, the Vale left wing chipped and caught the defence flat-footed to give his side the spoils.
Skipper John Bracken said:"Despite being under-strength from our normal side, the boys coming in will have learnt how communication in paramount to win these games."
