GILL Harrison from Windermere represented the Lakes Riding Club at the National Riding Club Championships at Malvern and finished in the top 10 at the riding test, writes Malcom Bewsher.

Harrison riding Jack Frost was a highly-creditable ninth overall and finished first in the preliminary arena test with an excellent score of 74 per cent - the highest score of the day, which made her and her mount the overall dressage champions for 2000.

The Lakes Grasmere team of Sarah McDougall (March Rose Master Jazz), Laura Eastham (Sparkling Flight of Fancy), Margaret Simkinson (Balaque) and James Oaken (Greggy) finished seventh in the team section.

Eastham also recorded fine second and seventh places.

The equitation team of Beth Sutcliffe (Deeside Yorkie) , Laura Eastham (Prince of Spies), Jenny Moore (Elf) and Jane Clark (Fair Courage) finished seventh with Clark ninth individual.

There were two Lakes representatives in the junior section.

Beth Moore rode 16-year-old Appleton Opal to be eighth in the evergreen class and Emma Wilkinson on Faere Gold was sixth in a hugh elementary section.

Jackie Dobson with her cob Ambrose and Margaret Sutcliffe on Jolly Good George also competed at Malvern.

Jenny Edmondson from Levens put in a highly-polished performance to clinch the home-produced working hunter championship at the British Elite Show at Rochdale.

Jenny was riding Oldcourt Amadeus, which also finished runner-up in the style and performance secition and was third in the Royal International qualifier.

Chloe Field on her now pony Linksbury Valentino won the 13hands home-produced show hunter and reserve champion on their very first outing, and were also second in the International qualifier.

Chloe took another runners-up rosette in the first ridden on Moonsprite.

Christine Richardson was runner-up in the 15hands working hunter section riding Carnsdale Striking Resemblance and also had good placings with Sir Skipper.

Jodie Stephens took reserve open show hunter champion and qualified the 14hands show hunter Yealand Presbytery in the Royal International qualifier ahead of Hannah Binks on Yealand Moonshadow.

Bradwell took the 15hands qualifier on Yealand Psalm, another Babs Ruchwaldy-bred contender.

Babs recently had a celebration party for her stallion Bottingelle Swansong, which reached the age of 21 recently.

Another of its offpsring, Pavrotti, had a second and third at the British Elite ridden by Sarah Ambler.

Lisa Holmes riding Castanya Showtime and Katie Parkinson riding Queen of Diamonds had good placings at the Elite Championships.
