REVOLUTIONARY tarmac came from an idea born at Silverdale nearly 100 years ago.
To mark the historic event, a plaque has been unveiled at Trowbarrow Limeworks, which produced Quarrite, the new "dustless paving", leading to tarmacadam.
The interpretative sign celebrating the Lancashire innovation includes computer generated images from old photographs, showing how the site once looked.
Arnside/Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust was behind the initiative.
