DALLAM School has won a European Award for Languages.
One of 15 winners throughout the UK, Dallam's award was for a community education scheme which offers French, German and Spanish classes to local primary schools free of charge.
Parents and children attend the classes together after school, and the project seeks to introduce and develop languages as part of the primary curriculum.
The award was presented by Jacqui Smith, parliamentary under-secretary of state for education.
The judges' summary of the Dallam scheme said: "This is an example of a specialist language college reaching out into the community and involving both younger pupils and their parents.
This was one of a number of applications from projects which involved parents and children learning languages together."
