ARMY bomb disposal experts have given a Kendal firm the all-clear after a second world war bomb was found Tuesday morning.

Staff at Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon were evacuated from the site at 11.20am when a device was found as a worker relocated machinery at Canal Head.

The area was sealed off to pedestrians and traffic and the 170 staff were sent away after fears it could explode if moved.

A disposal team from Catterick examined the mortar and found it wasn't live.

The area was re-opened shortly before 2pm but most company personnel were not expected to return after being sent home.
