THREE chalks proved to be an unlucky number for South Lakes and District bowlers.
It was the number by which they lost both the final of the British Parks National Senior Championship and in the play-offs for the National County Seniors Five-a-side Knock-out.
Playing against East Midlands the South Lakes home squad won 144-127, at Warton, but the away side lost 146-126, at Burton-on-Trent, for an aggregate three chalk loss.
South Lakes winners were: Home - Norman Nevinson (Abbot Hall) 21-12; Brian Tallon (Bowling Green) 21-15; Albert Brindle (Victoria) 21-9; John Ibbotson (Bare Village) 21-8; Ron Boyd (Warton) 21-19.
Away - Peter Derby (Slyne) 21-12; Henry Milner (Palatine) 21-14; Frank Gaffney (Regent Park) 21-15.
In the five-a-side play-offs South lakes lost by three chalks to a good Cheshire side in the semi-final.
