THE TRADITIONAL start to the squash season is September, but Kendal Squash Club are still awaiting the arrival of the fixture list for the Cumbria Men's League.
The women's league matches started on Monday with Kendal at home to North Lakes and winning 3-2.
Jacqui Walker, playing at No.
1, got the better of an energetic but scrappy game with Annes Woods, losing the first game before coming back to win in four.
At No.
2, Penny Hitchin never got into the game and Nicky Baxter won in three.
Jilly Waite at No.
3 was 0-6 down in the second game before she took a point from Moira Dudson, but worked her way back into contention, winning 9-5 in the fifth.
Janice Wilkinson went 2-0 up against Tracy Carruthers, lost the next game without taking a point but then clinched the match in the fourth after the game went to 8-8.
Diane Meth-Cohn made her first-team debut, going 2-0 up against Joan Wilson who then recovered to win in the fifth.
