WELCOME news for Kendal Town is that first team players will soon no longer face a 90-mile round trip to Preston for training.
A South Lakeland District Council decision to allow the use of land at Aikrigg for training mean the players will not have to trek up and down the M6 a couple of times a week.
Numerous attempts in the past to get permission to use other sports field and school pitches in Kendal have failed, leaving no alternative but a sports complex at Preston.
Use of the Aikrigg field, which adjoins the southern end of Kendal's ground, means the team can use club facilities without tearing up the Parkside pitch with studs during sprint training.
The ground ahs been cut and cleared by the council, but will not be used until it dries out from saturation by recrent rain.
Councillors agreed that the club could use it on a temporary basis awaiting long-term plans for sports development on the whole of the Cinder Overs area between Parkside and Kendal Leisure Centre.
