MANY older people could be up to £53 better off if they claimed the benefit to which they are entitled, says Age Concern South Lakeland.
Last year the Kendal-based charity helped people to claim attendance allowance worth around £300,000 a year.
The money has helped many people with disabilities to improve the quality of their lives.
"The Government has set this money aside in order to help older people," said charity director Mary Christian, "but the complexity of the application process can be daunting and many people, not surprisingly, are put off."
From October 2-9 the charity is running an Attendance Allowance Campaign.
Last year's campaign was so successful that the charity's benefits advice scheme has been extended for a further three years, thanks to support from the Northern Rock Foundation.
During the campaign week, the charity will be running a helpline, where trained staff and volunteers will be on hand to help people complete the lengthy forms.
If you think you might be eligible for the benefit, telephone Age Concern on 01539-728118, or call in to the Kendal office at Sandes Avenue.
