PLANS for a 65-metre-high wind turbine at Lowick Beacon have gone on hold after councillors voted to make a site visit.
Gloucestershire-based Next Generation Ltd hopes to erect the mast, which is two-thirds the height of Blackpool Tower and has blades 35 metres long, on a hill 190 metres above sea level.
Three years ago a public inquiry threw out plans for three turbines half its size on the same site.
Last week more than 60 villagers crowded into Lowick's Sunday School room and voted to start a campaign to stop the turbine.
The decision to visit the site was taken at yesterday's South Lakeland District Council development control committee.
