KENDAL traders fear the town's crime-busting CCTV system would be undermined if monitoring of the screens is transferred from the town to the Cumbria police headquarters at Penrith.

The police have asked South Lakeland District Council to consider paying for civilian staff to monitor the screens in Kendal.
