THE Kendal-Rinteln Association has appealed for funds to help keep its twinning project with the German town alive and well.

Jim Quincey, chairman of the KRA, has appealed for cash donations which will help people from Kendal explore life in Rinteln and enable the association to provide hospitality for German guests.

Mr Quincey said: "We need to maintain our profile and ability to give financial assistance to the various organisations who have travelled, and will travel in the future, to Rinteln on cultural, sporting, and educational visits, and also to maintain a reasonable standard of hospitality when we entertain similar groups from Rinteln."

The association also needs funds for a special commemorative piece of public artwork.

A mural representing the twinning of Kendal with Rinteln should be unveiled in the Elephant Yard shopping centre next year if the association can secure the additional £1,850 of funding needed.

Local artist Maggie Berkovitz will be commissioned to produce the ceramic mural and the KRA is confident that local businesses will be keen to contribute towards the masterpiece once they see the final design.

Those interested in contributing towards the Kendal-Rinteln Association should contact the chairman, Jim Qincey, on 01539-722088 or attend the annual meeting on Friday, October 20, at 7pm in the Shakespeare Centre on Highgate, Kendal.

All present members and anyone interested in the work of the association are welcome to attend
