RICHARD Light is well in the frame at the moment.

The Green Door Studio artist landed the most notable art award in the Kendal Windows on Arts event with his mixed media Past Times, Past Lives.

He's had work on display in this year's knock-out Lake Artists showcase, and has pictures on show in the flavour of the month Kendal gallery, Wave, on Kirkland.

Chris Benefield's Tinners' Rabbit gallery in Ulverston is showing Richard's artwork too as is Photogenic in Arnside.

And from October 23 until November 11, he joins his kindred spirits at Green Door for an exhibition in the Kendal, Highgate eatery, Georgian House.

He's gained many followers over the past few years for his contemporary mix of acrylic, gouache and ink, often in the early stages using screenprint and electronic media to explore or lay down a foundation.

His KWoA winner was inspired by cave paintings from a book.

It shows a cave painter, 17th century artist and himself, created using bits of computer graphics, charcoal and oils, and a palette knife.

He told me: "Throughout history something inside people has always wanted to make images.

I suddenly felt connected to all the people who had ever wanted to put some image from their minds out here in the world - on rock, canvas, paper or whatever."

Aged three Richard recalls splashing water on to magic painting books and being spellbound as the colours appeared: "The magic of painting and printing has hooked me ever since, waiting to see what will emerge next."

And from those enchanting childhood beginnings Richard has gone on to exhibit across the north of England, with work in private collections around the world.
