BEST-selling author Julia Darling and top poet John Hegley are just a few of the 'names' taking part in this year's LitFest literary bash.

Taking place from October 14-22, the top-notch festival of words is packed with readings, performances, cabarets and workshops in both Lancaster and Morecambe (plus Fleetwood and Clitheroe), all providing a bigger, brighter and bolder LitFest 2000.

Festival publicity officer Sue Parish said the Lancaster-based arts organisation had pulled out all the stops to find something for everyone.

She added: "If you've ever fancied finding out what writers do, how they do it, and what it sounds like when they perform their work for an audience, this is your perfect chance."

Events open with Ed Jones, novelist and television scriptwriter whose career took off when he became part of the Brookside writing team.

He stages Workshop and Conversation at the North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood.

Julia Darling is "in conversation with writer Daphne Glazer" at Morecambe Library on Thursday, October 19 (2pm) and popular poet U.

A.

Fanthorpe returns to the festival with a gig at The Dukes Studio, Lancaster, alongside A.

L.

Kennedy, novelist, playwright and screenwriter.

The 22-event festival culminates with comedy's poet laureate, John Hegley, at The Dukes on Sunday, October 22 (7.30pm).
