INTERNATIONALLY renowned flautist, Wissam Boustany, shared his skills with 11 young flautists in a series of master classes during a visit to Kendal.
Such is his enthusiasm and energy that, whether teaching or performing, he is quite inspirational.
Suzanne de Lozey, who had masterminded the whole occasion, worked with a flute choir of 30 players, and all this hard work culminated in a wonderful concert at Kendal Parish Church in the evening.
This gave all the players a chance to hear Wissam Boustany in recital, together with pianist Brenda Blewett, staff accompanist at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester.
Playing music by Hummel, Liebermann and Mouquet, the pair had a splendid rapport, and in the luminous acoustic of the church their playing gave tremendous pleasure to an enraptured audience.
Three young performers who had played in the masterclass were chosen to take part in the evening concert.
They were Elin Roberts, who had travelled from Wales to take part, Ruth Leavett of Kendal and Alex Newton from Leeds.
Suzanne de Lozey played Tango Fantasia by Gade, and conducted the flute choir in a delightful arrangement of For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter.
With such excellent players, and in such beautiful surroundings, inspiration was not hard to find.
