WESTMORLAND and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins is to meet with the boss of United Utilities John Roberts to discuss ways of tackling the offensive odours coming from Kendal's Wattsfield sewerage plant.
Residents of Bellingham Road and Wattsfield Road - who have endured the sewerage smells for years - have also been invited to the meeting next Friday (October 13).
Earlier in the summer the Westmorland Gazette launched Stop the Stink campaign calling on NWW to back any plans to tackle the smells and to give a firm date for work to start.
Last month - six months into the campaign - NWW pledged that work to reduce the odours would start on site by January 2001, and that money would be made available to finance this work.
