POLICE are hunting a man who coaxed a teenager into his car and forced her into committing an indecent act after gaining her trust by purporting to be a policeman.
The 16-year-old was persuaded to get into the car after the man engaged her in conversation on Appleby Road last Thursday night, September 28.
Detective Sergeant Ray Begley, of Kendal police, said the man had approached the girl outside the vehicle and had then got back inside the car from where he spoke with the teenager.
As they were talking a couple had approached from Sandylands estate and as there was insufficient room on the pavement to allow them to pass, the man had persuaded the girl to get into the car.
The man said he would drive to Kendal polce station where somebody would verify who he was but instead he went round the town's one-way system and out onto the B5284 Crook Road where the indecent act took place.
He then dropped the girl off in Bowness.
Anyone with information should contact Kendal police on 01539-722611.
