A COMPUTER expert will be conserving his energy for a final spurt in the New York marathon when he has to run through the Bronx.

Brian Walker, 35, of Burton in Lonsdale, will complete a hat-trick of charity runs when he crosses the finishing line in America on November 5.

Mr Walker, a senior operations analyst for AXA in Kendal, said he was looking forward to seeing the city during the 26-mile race, which begins on an island in the Bay of Manhattan, near the Statue of Liberty.

"I've never been to New York and I'll be looking at all the sites when I'm running round.

"The Bronx is towards the end so I'll be saving a bit of energy for that," he said.

Mr Walker has raised £1,500 for Mencap through taking part in the London and Glasgow marathons.

He hopes to match that total with his final race, when he is running for the charity Get Kids Going!, which provides sports wheelchairs for disabled children.

"I have raised around £100 on my own sponsor forms but hope to hear from companies who might want to back me," he said.

"It will be nice to finish the third marathon and then throw my running shoes away.

I am fairly active, I just did not realise how much running it would take, I've done 700 miles this year," he said.
