A helicopter which got into difficulties over Windermere has ditched into the lake half a mile from shore.
The Jet Ranger 206 was about to pick up passengers from a location near to Storrs Hall when it came down shortly before 8am today.
Its pilot, a 61-year old man from the Blackpool area, bailed out and swam to shore.
He was shocked and cold and was taken to Furness General Hospital for treatment.
Police say the Air Accident Investigation branch has been informed.
The helicopter is owned by a Chorley-based company.
