POLICE chiefs are to buy a new boat for Windermere, to replace one which was withdrawn in March 1999.
The rigid inflatable boat, which should be in use by the beginning of March, is designed to be more cost-effective and flexible than its predecessor, and could be transported to other inland stretches of water, or used offshore.
Members of the Lake District National Park Authority this week agreed to contribute £3,000 towards the cost of the boat.
