AN ANIMAL feed store and shelter can be built on grazing land on the outskirts of Ulverston despite 13 letters of objection from neighbours.
Following a visit to the site, off Chittery Lane, South Lakeland district councillors agreed to allow the building, which will be used for storing feed and bedding of three show ponies, twelve breeding sheep and two goats.
Objectors had argued that the store, which will be visible from Hoad Monument, would be too big and prominent in the area.
They were also worried that a business use could be established, leading to more traffic using the narrow access along the lane.
But SLDC's development control sub-committee heard that the building - to replace an existing animal shelter and caravan - would improve the appearance of the site.
Applicants Mr and Mrs G.
Potts have stated they have no intention of running a business from the site.
Councillors agreed the application on the condition that the store is for the use of the applicants only; it is rendered in a dark colour; and that additional screening is planted around it.
