CREATIVE Emily Haston is a winning maths poet - at the tender age of seven.
The youngster, who is a pupil at Wilson's Endowed CE School in Over Kellet, has won a national poetry competition staged as part of the Maths 2000 project.
Emily's victorious verse has earned her £100 of book tokens, and a further £1,000 of tokens for the school.
Staff learned of her success the first day back in the New Year, and Emily and her teacher Pat Quinn read out her poem in front of the whole school.
Her winning rhyme is currently on the Maths 2000 website, on http://www.mathsyear2000.org/competition.
We Need Maths, by Emily Haston.
I like Maths it is fun to do,
Multiply, addition, division and subtraction too!
These are things you can do.
You need maths when you are shopping for sweets,
To see if you've enough money for your treats.
5 pence add 10 pence add 20 pence too,
Yes! I've enough money 35 pence Yahoo!
We need maths to count everything from fingers and toes,
To sticks and stones to flowers and trees,
We need maths to count all of these.
