Furness 16, Ambleside 10
AMBLESIDE travelled without a recognised scrum-half to Furness, who opened the scoring in this closely-fought match with a penalty midway through the first half.
Ambleside responded well considering the heavy conditions with some good rugby, resulting in hooker Mark Shepherd being driven over the line for a try which stand-in Neil Irwin converted.
After Irwin added a penalty, the half-time score stood at 10-3 in Ambleside's favour.
Furness attacked from the restart, pinning Ambleside into their own half for much of the second half.
The pressure eventually paid off when Furness seized upon a failed touch kick and created an overlap to bring them a converted try.
Furness then added a further six points through two penalties to go ahead.
Ambleside had their own penalty chances, but failed to kick them into the wind, the final score finishing a disappointing 16-10 against them.
