SANTA might leave his sleigh at home next Christmas after youngsters hurled foul-mouthed abuse and threw stones on two Kendal housing estates.
Organisers Kendal Lions have met to discuss the incidents on Hallgarth and Sandylands, which happened as Santa made a trip on a float, handing out sweets in the run-up to Christmas.
The Lions are considering replacing the charity fund-raising tour with more static appearances by Santa outside stores like Asda and K Village.
"To be honest the Lions do not want to give up collecting at Christmas," said Charles Cooper.
"Statics took two hours of an evening and we collected nicely there.
It was easier for us because it only needed four or five people.
When go out on the streets we need 12 or 15.
"Going out on the sleigh is hard work.
I was out for four hours on Christmas Eve, I got back to my house at 11 in the evening after we had counted the money."
The Lions have also spoken to Kendal police and been assured that, if they provide a map of the route, they will respond to any problems.
Mr Cooper, who wanted to thank Kendal people for their generosity in donating £3,000 to local good causes over Christmas, said the Lions would meet at the Duke of Cumberland on January 22 to "have a good discussion" and make their final decision on how to overcome problems.
