Sir, My husband Jim, our children and grandchildren, are descendants of the Laycock family, formerly of Elterwater, Crosthwaite, Keswick and Greystoke.
Jim's grandfather, Joseph Laycock, was born in Elterwater, near Langdale.
Joseph, son of Joseph Laycock and Margaret Wilson, moved to Canada.
His brothers, William and Thomas followed later.
Another brother, Robert, remained in England.
Their parents Joseph and Margaret were married at Grasmere, 1841.
Since Jim and I retired nine years ago and moved from Calgary, Canada, to the Cayman Islands, I've been researching the history and origin of the Laycock name.
The information that I've gathered, and hope to gather from distant cousins, will be published in a desktop book.
Would anyone like to share any information about their Laycock line? Maybe someone has also done research about the Laycocks.
I'm sure there are lots of interesting anecdotes and stories about our people.
Also, there's a chance someone may be a descendant of the above-mentioned Laycocks, or to the earlier parent, William Laycock, born 1790 at Greystoke, who married Eleanor Mossop at Highhead, 1815.
