USING water more efficiently and generating more energy from renewable sources are challenges that need to be faced according to the Environment Agency.
The EA's recently published report Environment 2000 and Beyond highlights a number of priorities that need tackling in the North West region, which covers South Lakeland, Furness and north Lancashire.
According to research carried out by the EA, one of the biggest threats to the environment is the impact of climate change, which could lead to warmer temperatures and more winter rainfall.
Continuing to improve the quality of water, air, rivers and bathing waters are listed as priorities, as is developing renewable sources of energy such as wind farms and energy crops.
