AMBLESIDE faced a Netherwood League Division 2 match against a confident Windermere, whose determination to take full points from their table-topping opponents on Sunday was dealt an early blow when Alison Westworth struck from close range.
Ambleside had most of the first-half play but Windermere fought their way back to make several scoring chances but were closed out by solid defending, with Frances Hughes outstanding for Ambleside on the left flank.
Janet Faulkner showed she is back in form as she snatched Ambleside's second goal with a sizzling shot.
Outstanding goalkeeping restricted Ambleside to a 2-0 victory, which reinforced their position as leaders and virtually ensures they will bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
