A STUDY into a virus which has affected red squirrel populations in the Duddon Valley is starting in February.
Corrie Bruemer, of Cumbria Wildlife Trust, is carrying out research into parapoxvirus, of which there has been a recent outbreak in the Furness area.
Almost every red squirrel which catches the virus dies as result of it, although grey squirrels are more resistant.
Ms Bruemer is keen to hear from any reader who sees a sick animal and can be contacted on 015394-48280.
