VOLUNTEERS have started on a series of projects to help restore and enhance Kendal Fell and golf course.
Over the next few weeks, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers are due to clear the hawthorn scrub and other bushes invading parts of the fell.
They will cut the scrub down, treat the stumps and either burn or cart the brushwood away.
It is hoped that this will help improve the species-rich limestone grassland and increase the numbers of birds, butterflies and other invertebrates.
New signs will also be put up to mark footpaths across the golf course and advise walkers to take care when crossing the fairways.
The work is the result of a management plan for the land which aims to improve and conserve the landscape, provide a good quality golf course and maintain access to the area for walkers.
