A SMALL band of local volunteers set up to support a sports and social club for deaf people in Kendal is already starting to make its mark.
The group, called the Friends of Kendal Deaf Club, was set up towards the end of last year to raise funds for the club which meets regularly at Castle Street, Kendal.
David Ratcliffe got the group off to an excellent start, raising more than £500 by running the London Marathon last April.
Money raised by Greer Shepherd paid for paint which Debbie Halliwell used to paint the interior of the deaf centre.
Robert Aindow donated wood to repair the front door and Rob Shepherd donated concrete and repaired the wall of the building.
Further funds have been donated by the Union Lodge 129 of the Freemasons, and Karen Loader who staged a bag-packing event at Asda which raised £425.
Anyone who is interested in helping the group should call Trevor Hughes on 01539-724302.
