A FULL-strength Glaxo squad had a long and comprehensive warm-up when opponents Liverpool University got stuck in traffic and the North West Men's Hockey League match at Ulverston started 20 minutes late.
But Glaxo, seeking much-needed points in their fight to avoid relegation, started by putting Liverpool under immense pressure and the deadlock was broken when Danny Reid received the ball on the halfway line.
When he strung together several return passes before finally collecting the ball inside the D and hammering home his shot with just three minutes on the clock, Glaxo realised this was going to be a good day for them.
But as the game settled down, the University boys grew in confidence and scored a relatively simple goal to draw level.
They then took a 2-1 lead close to half time with another soft goal which resulted in a tap-in.
Glaxo's second-half display was probably the best of the season so far.
They maintained possession, worked and supported each other and were positive throughout.
Earning their reward, Matthew Cook scored from a well-worked passage of play down the left midway through the half to bring them back on equal terms at 2-2.
Then with about ten minutes to go Mark Cook scored what proved to be the deserved winning goal for a 3-2 victory after some delightful two-touch hockey down the right.
