LAKELAND Wobblers ended the unbeaten run of leaders West Lothian when they travelled to Irlam on Saturday for their third tournament in National Division 4 North of the Canoe Polo League.

Wobblers were building on the promise shown when dominating the opening game against Green Star for a 3-0 win, all the goals coming from Tim Mather.

Resolute defending held at bay West Lothian, who had not lost this season, in the first half.

In a rare attacking move at the start of the second half, Wobblers' goalkeeper Ray Waite sprinted down the right side for a cracking shot that was deflected wide of his opposite number.

West Lothian threw everything at Wobblers to try and remedy the situation to be no avail as they went down 1-0.

Wobblers were up against Tees Rockets in the third game and gifted a goal to them when three players each left the ball for someone else.

Wobblers swiftly hit back with Mather scoring an equaliser.

Waite kept the fightback going with a second goal for Wobblers for a 2-1 half-time lead.

When in the second half Wobblers' Simon Lewis was fouled twice while in the act of shooting, Wobblers extended their lead to 4-1.

A late Rockets goal could not stop Wobblers running out 4-2 winners.

Wobblers outplayed Pennine C in the final game and did not put a paddle wrong in a 5-0 victory, with two goals apiece for Mather - making his total tally six for the day - and Andy Hyde and another for John Watkins.
