NEW EU rules paving the way for increased competition should not pose a threat to existing postal services, according to Euro MP Lord Inglewood, who lives at Hutton-in-the-Forest, near Penrith.
The European Parliament has agreed the British Post Office should in future only have a monopoly on the collection and delivery of mail under 150 grammes, compared with 350g at present.
The European Commission had called for the limit to be cut to just 50g, which Women's Institutes feared would damage vital services.
