REPAIRS to the A6 through Shap are only going to be done in patches.
Despite many residents feeling that only resurfacing the whole length of the main street would solve the problems, Cumbria County Council is seeking to limit works to "discrete repairs of the road".
Members of the council's Eden area committee heard that action to improve the road had already been done, or was in the pipeline.
Eden District Council had re-levelled three metal covers to remove hollows in the surface.
The county council had asked Norweb telecom and North West Water to reconstruct various patches, and the operators of Shap Lime Works and Shap Beck Quarry had been asked to consider a Voluntary Code of Conduct for wagons operating in the local area in an attempt to limit further damage and to cut down noise levels.
A petition of 364 signatures in support of repairing the main road through Shap has been forwarded from the community.
