WINDERMERE is obviously flavour of the month with catering exhibition organisers.

Only the other week the Low Wood Hotel played host to the first Premier English Lake District Catering Exhibition organised by Morecambe-based Althams Catering Butchers.

Now, the English Lake District Hotels and Caterers Association (southern division) has forsaken Kendal Leisure Centre for The Burnside, in Bowness.

The association used to exhibit at the Low Wood before its switch to Kendal.

The two-day exhibition at the Burnside (February 26 and 27), for trade only, is being supported by Cumbrian Fellbred.

As well as chef-led demonstrations, visitors from the catering and hospitality industry will have a chance to sample lots of new food products.

HOW to source local and regional foods while being cost effective and how to increase business through the promotion of local products will be subjects in the spotlight at a Caring Millennium conference to be held at Langdale Hotel and Country Club next Thursday (February 8).Organised by the Lake District Tourism Conservation Partnership, the day-long event will be chaired by Eric Robson, of Gardeners Question Time fame.

He is also a patron of the LDTCP.

Cumbrian Fell Bred director Richard Morris will explain how to source food locally.

His panel will include Paul Barnes, Langdale Leisure deputy hotel manager and food and beverage manager, and hopefully, a representative from Hawkshead Trout Farm, as well as Chris Carrs, of Rothay Garden Hotel, Grasmere.

Cumbrian Fare, courtesy of Booths supermarkets, will also be on the menu for a special dinner in the evening at which Professor David Bellamy will be the guest of honour.
