The home side took a 10-0 lead with a brace of tries from former Walney player Anthony Horton, plus a Neil Gaitskell conversion.
Walney pulled back six points before the interval with a Mark Clay try converted by James Finch.
Walney looked sharp at the start of the second period and took the lead with tries from Shaun Morrow, Ade Goulding and Graham Newby, plus two goals from Finch.
Ulverston's reply saw Andy Clough crossing from close-range, followed by Darren Bottrell.
Two conversion by Gaitskell levelled the score and he then clinched victory with a well-taken drop-goal.
Dalton crashed out of the National Cup with a 22-4 away defeat by Waterhead.
The Oldham side sewed it up in the first-half, two handling mistakes by Dalton gifting them with tries from John Thewliss and Neil Gooding for an 8-0 lead after just eight minutes.
The home side eventually went 12-0 up when Thewliss crossed the line for his second try.
As half time approached Waterhead scored try number four through Rory Freek, John Parks converting.
After the break good work by Dawes, Costa, Herbert and O'Connor paved the way for Pugh to make it 18-4 but Waterhead destroyed all thoughts of a Dalton comeback when Thewliss scored his third try.
