A LAKELAND school is launching a campaign this weekend to raise more than £12,000 to resurface its playground, part of which is out of bounds because of sunken drains and ridges.
Hawkshead Pre-School on Main Street is hosting a fete and open day tomorrow (Saturday) when local residents and businesses will be invited to support the project by sponsoring sections of the play area, which has been divided into 250 squares, at £25 each.
All the numbers of the squares will then be put into a hat, and a winner will be drawn to receive a £100 cash prize.
The fund-raising drive began earlier this year, when more than £1,400 was collected, but donations dried up in the wake of the foot-and-mouth epidemic.
The pre-school, which offers nursery provision for Hawks-head as well as children from Sawrey and Satterthwaite, is re-launching the campaign on Saturday when there will be cream teas, a bouncy castle, tombola and various stalls between 11am and 3pm.
