Every year South Lakeland District Council receives around 250 complaints from people appalled by the dog dirt that litter the district's pavements and parks.
The council, which spends £47,000 annually on its dog warden service, is in the middle of a major clampdown on owners who allow their dogs to foul public areas.
As part of this, SLDC has taken on Stephen Wood to act as a trouble-shooting enforcement officer, issuing £25 fixed penalty fines to owners who fail to clear up their pets' mess.
Reporter Victoria Clark spent a couple of hours with Mr Wood as he carried out his duties on Arnside's promenade.
