FOOT-AND-MOUTH failed to halt the carnival weekend in Appleby.
A shorter parade than usual was organised by the Appleby and District Carnival and Sports Committee and the usual festivities held on King George Playing Field were brought into the Public Hall as a precaution against spreading the disease.
But the low-key version of the annual event brought the residents of Appleby on to the streets.
Punch and Judy made an appearance in the Market Hall and a clown created balloon toys for the children who lined Boroughgate for the fancy dress precession which set off from Garthshead Road.
